The Campsites & Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort
750 wooded acres of campsites and cabins on Bay Lake — home of Hoop-Dee-Doo, golf carts, and the most relaxed version of Disney World.
Other On-Property Hotels Magic Kingdom area Campsites from ~$130/night; cabins $450+
Fort Wilderness is the other 1971 original, and it remains the most un-Disney-paced corner of Walt Disney World: 750 acres of loblolly pines on Bay Lake where the preferred vehicle is a rented golf cart, the evening activity is a campfire sing-along with Chip 'n' Dale, and your neighbors have been booking the same RV loop for thirty years. Accommodations run from tent and full-hookup RV sites to the cabins, which sleep six and come with kitchens and grills — the cheapest way to put a big family inside the Disney bubble with a full kitchen.
The headline meal is the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Disney's long-running dinner show in Pioneer Hall — fried chicken, ribs, and vaudeville bits that have survived since 1974 because they work. P&J's Southern Takeout covers casual counter fare, and the Crockett's Tavern window pours next to Pioneer Hall. Beyond food, the Fort is its own parks-adjacent vacation: horseback trail rides and pony rides at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, archery, fishing, and the nightly Electrical Water Pageant gliding past the beach.
Getting to Magic Kingdom is a scenic boat ride across Bay Lake; everything else is by bus, and the internal loops mean commutes here run longer than anywhere on property — the golf cart isn't just for fun.
Who it suits: RV travelers, multigenerational groups, dog owners (many loops are pet-friendly), and anyone who wants campfires with their Space Mountain. Skip it if transit time is your enemy.
