Disney's Polynesian Village Resort
South Seas theming on the monorail loop since 1971 — Dole Whips, the lava pool, 'Ohana, and a beach pointed straight at the castle fireworks.
Deluxe Resorts Magic Kingdom area $600–$1,200/night
The Polynesian has been the sentimental favorite since opening day 1971, and it earns the loyalty: torch-lit walkways, a beach full of hammocks aimed at Cinderella Castle, and the only resort lobby where the appropriate souvenir is a Dole Whip from Pineapple Lanai. It shares the monorail loop with the Contemporary and Grand Floridian, and adds a trick the others don't have — you can walk to the Transportation & Ticket Center and board the EPCOT monorail directly, making the Poly arguably the best two-park commuting address on property.
Food is a headliner here. 'Ohana's family-style skewers and bread pudding stay among the hardest reservations at Walt Disney World; Kona Cafe quietly serves one of the best breakfasts on the monorail loop (Tonga Toast); and Trader Sam's Grog Grotto is the most entertaining bar Disney has ever built — order the Krakatoa and watch the room erupt. The Oasis Bar covers the pool deck, and the marina rents watercraft for Seven Seas Lagoon.
The lava pool with its volcano slide is a kid magnet, while the newer Island Tower and the longhouse villas carry the Disney Vacation Club inventory — topped by the overwater bungalows, the most expensive way to sleep at Walt Disney World and the only one with a private fireworks deck.
Who it suits: families chasing the classic-Disney feel, honeymooners, and anyone splitting days between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Skip it if you need quiet minimalism — the Poly is busy, social, and proudly kitschy.
