When planning a Walt Disney World vacation, understanding the value of complimentary transportation versus potential parking fees can reveal real savings. Staying at a Disney Resort hotel often includes free access to various transportation options, which can offset costs associated with driving and parking, helping you spot where your family can save money on your trip.
Complimentary Disney Resort Transportation
For guests of select Disney Resort hotels, a range of transportation options are complimentary. These include Disney's buses, boats, monorail, and the Disney Skyliner. These services generally begin 45 minutes before Disney theme park opening time and run up to one hour after closing. It's important to note that not every route is direct, and you may need to transfer to a connecting bus, boat, or monorail to reach your destination. For park-to-park trips, Disney suggests using the Get Directions feature in the My Disney Experience app to find the most direct route, which might combine different modes of transport or even walking. Some areas of the resort are also connected by lit, paved walking paths.
Getting Around by Bus
Disney's bus service is extensive, connecting the four theme parks, two water parks, Disney Resort hotels, and Disney Springs. Buses between Disney Resort hotels and the theme parks operate from 45 minutes before opening until one hour after closing. Buses to and from Disney Springs run during its operating hours and end one hour after it closes. When boarding a resort bus from Disney Springs, guests may be asked to show a room key or a dining or experience reservation, with reservation holders able to board up to two hours before their reservation time.
For Typhoon Lagoon, most resorts require a bus to Disney Springs and a transfer. For Blizzard Beach, most resorts transfer at Animal Kingdom, though Coronado Springs and the All-Star resorts offer direct buses. Remember that some routes need a transfer, and no luggage or alcohol is permitted on Disney buses. Strollers must be folded before boarding. Soaring on the Disney Skyliner
The Disney Skyliner gondolas offer a scenic way to travel, connecting Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT's International Gateway with Disney's Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, and Riviera resorts. Disney describes the International Gateway station as a short stroll from Disney's BoardWalk, Disney's Yacht Club Resort, Disney's Beach Club Resort, and Disney's BoardWalk Inn. The Skyliner opens one hour before Early Theme Park Entry begins at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios and closes 90 minutes after EPCOT or Hollywood Studios closes. On nights with EPCOT Extended Evening Hours, it closes one hour after EPCOT, with only the EPCOT to Riviera route running in that final stretch. After EPCOT closes, riders cannot access the EPCOT parking lot via Skyliner and Disney advises using another option, such as a bus. Disney has scheduled a Skyliner refurbishment closure from January 24 to January 30, 2027, during which complimentary buses will run instead.
Cruising by Monorail and Boat
Monorail: The Resort Monorail stops at Magic Kingdom, Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC). The EPCOT Monorail and Express Monorail start at the TTC, running express to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, respectively. The Resort Monorail and Express Monorail begin 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom opens and stop one hour after it closes. The EPCOT Monorail starts 30 minutes before EPCOT opens and stops two hours after EPCOT closes. Glass containers are not allowed on the monorail.
Boats: Various water launches connect Magic Kingdom with Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, and Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Ferryboats connect Magic Kingdom with the Transportation and Ticket Center, while water taxis run between Disney's Contemporary Resort, Fort Wilderness, and Wilderness Lodge. FriendShip boats serve EPCOT and Hollywood Studios from Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's Yacht Club Resort, the Walt Disney World Dolphin, and the Walt Disney World Swan. The Sassagoula River Cruise runs to Disney Springs from Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, Port Orleans Riverside, and Port Orleans French Quarter. When boarding at Disney Springs for a resort, you may be asked for a room key or a dining or experience reservation. Most boat routes run every 15 to 30 minutes, with hours varying based on water and weather conditions. No luggage or alcohol is allowed on Disney boats. Paid Transportation Options
Minnie Van service, connected by Lyft, is not complimentary. You request and pay for rides through the Lyft app, with prices depending on the distance traveled within Walt Disney World. Each Minnie Van holds up to six guests and includes two child safety seats that the Cast Member driver can install. This service operates at select locations within Walt Disney World, including any Disney Resorts Collection hotel, Four Seasons Resort Orlando, Shades of Green, the Swan, the Dolphin, and the Swan Reserve. Any guest can order an Accessible Minnie Van, which seats five, has two spaces for mobility devices, and carries at most seven guests.
Parking at Walt Disney World
Understanding parking fees is key to spotting savings. Standard theme park parking is $35 a day for a car or motorcycle, and one fee covers all four theme parks that day. Preferred parking costs $50, $55, or $60 a day, depending on the date, while oversized vehicles pay $40 a day. Disney's parking fees include sales tax. For registered Disney Resort hotel guests, standard theme park parking is included, and they can pay the difference ($15 to $25 a day) for preferred parking. Overnight self-parking at Disney Resort hotels is complimentary for their guests. Valet parking at Disney Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts and Coronado Springs is $42 a night plus tax. Day guests can park free at Disney Resort hotels while using select dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation services there. Parking fees are nonrefundable, and paying does not guarantee a space if you leave and return later or drive to a different park. Courtesy trams run between the parking lot and the entrance at all four theme parks (to the TTC for Magic Kingdom). Standard parking at Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach is free. Disney Springs garages open at 9:00 AM on regular days and 7:00 AM on special merchandise event days, including every Tuesday. The Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve set their own rates, with self-parking at $40 per vehicle a day plus tax for their registered guests.
Car Rentals
If you choose to rent a car, Enterprise, Alamo, and National offer rentals at the Car Care Center near Magic Kingdom, open daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A free shuttle runs from Disney Resort hotels and the parks to the Car Care Center; you should book it at least two hours before pickup. This option can be useful for exploring areas beyond Walt Disney World, but consider the daily parking fees if you plan to drive to the parks.
