One of the biggest questions we get as a Disney trip planner is, “When is the best time to go to Disney World?” The answer almost always comes down to crowds. Navigating the parks when attendance is low can completely change your vacation, leading to shorter lines, easier dining reservations, and a more relaxed pace. That's where a good Disney crowd calendar comes in.

We’ve put together our month-by-month guide for 2026 to help you understand the patterns of park attendance. By looking at school schedules, holidays, and special events, we can predict when Disney World wait times will be at their highest and when you might find a bit of breathing room. Let's find the perfect time for your family to visit!

Understanding Disney World Crowd Levels

Before we dive into the monthly breakdown, let's cover some basics that are always true. Crowd levels are driven by a few key factors:

  • Holidays: Any major U.S. holiday, especially those that give kids a day or more off from school, will cause a spike in crowds. Think Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Presidents' Day.
  • School Schedules: Summer break, spring break, and fall breaks are peak season. When kids are out of school, families flock to the parks.
  • Special Events: EPCOT festivals, runDisney race weekends, and ticketed parties like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party can draw in locals and out-of-state visitors, especially on weekends.
  • Weekends vs. Weekdays: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are almost always busier than Mondays through Thursdays. If your trip spans a weekend, expect to see wait times climb.

2026 Month-by-Month Crowd Guide

Here is our breakdown of what to expect from crowds at Walt Disney World throughout 2026.

H3: January 2026

  • Crowd Level: Low to Moderate
  • Key Dates:
    • New Year's Holiday Crowds: Jan 1-4
    • runDisney Marathon Weekend: Jan 7-11
    • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend: Jan 16-19
    • EPCOT International Festival of the Arts: Began mid-January

January started off with the last of the holiday crowds, but once that first week was over, the parks felt wonderfully quiet. The big exceptions were the Marathon Weekend and MLK Day weekend, which brought in significant crowds. The rest of the month offered a fantastic opportunity for low Disney World wait times, especially on weekdays.

H3: February 2026

  • Crowd Level: Moderate to High
  • Key Dates:
    • EPCOT International Festival of the Arts: Continued through mid-February
    • Presidents' Day Week: Feb 13-20
    • runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend: Feb 19-23

February was a tale of two halves. The first two weeks were relatively calm and a great time to visit. However, Presidents' Day week brought some of the heaviest crowds we see all year, rivaling spring break. The popular Princess Half Marathon weekend also packed the resorts and parks.

H3: March 2026

  • Crowd Level: High
  • Key Dates:
    • EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival: Kicked off early March
    • Spring Break Season: Begins mid-month and intensifies

We're in the thick of it now! As of March 2026, spring break season is beginning to ramp up. While the first week of the month is manageable, crowds and wait times will increase steadily each week as more schools let out. Weekends at EPCOT are particularly busy thanks to the beautiful Flower & Garden Festival.

H3: April 2026

  • Crowd Level: High to Very High
  • Key Dates:
    • Easter Sunday: April 5
    • Peak Spring Break: April 3-12
    • runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend: Dates TBD (typically early April)

The first two weeks of April will be peak spring break season, centered around the Easter holiday. Expect the highest crowd levels of the spring. Things should calm down considerably during the last two weeks of the month, offering a nice window before the summer rush begins.

H3: May 2026

  • Crowd Level: Moderate
  • Key Dates:
    • Memorial Day Weekend: May 22-25

Historically, the first three weeks of May are a 'sweet spot' for visiting. The spring break crowds are gone, and the summer rush hasn't quite started. The weather is hot but often not as intense as July or August. Crowds will spike significantly for Memorial Day weekend, which acts as the unofficial kickoff to summer.

H3: June 2026

  • Crowd Level: High
  • Key Dates:
    • Summer Break Crowds: All month

Welcome to summer. Schools across the country are out, and family vacation season is in full swing. Expect consistently high crowd levels and high temperatures all month long. A midday break at your resort pool isn't just a good idea—it's essential for survival!

H3: July 2026

  • Crowd Level: High
  • Key Dates:
    • Independence Day: July 4

July continues the summer trend with high crowds and hot, humid weather. The week of the 4th of July is particularly busy. If you can, we recommend planning your park days for weekdays and using the weekends as rest or resort days.

H3: August 2026

  • Crowd Level: High to Low
  • Key Dates:
    • Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: Expected to begin mid-August
    • Schools start returning: Mid-to-late August

Much like February, August is a month of two halves. The first two weeks are a continuation of the summer peak. But starting around the third week, as schools begin their new year, crowds drop off dramatically. The last week of August can be one of the quietest times of the year, provided you can handle the intense heat.

H3: September 2026

  • Crowd Level: Low
  • Key Dates:
    • Labor Day Weekend: Sep 4-7
    • EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival: In full swing

Aside from Labor Day weekend, September is typically the least crowded month on the Disney crowd calendar. The combination of kids being back in school and the peak of hurricane season keeps many visitors away. For those willing to risk the weather, you'll be rewarded with some of the lowest Disney World wait times of the year. Our INTERNAL_LINK: Epcot Guide can help you navigate the fantastic Food & Wine Festival.

H3: October 2026

  • Crowd Level: Moderate to High
  • Key Dates:
    • Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day: Oct 12
    • Halloween: Oct 31

October is no longer the quiet fall month it once was. Many school districts have fall breaks, and the appeal of Halloween and the Food & Wine festival brings people to the parks. Expect weekend crowds to be high, with weekdays being more manageable.

H3: November 2026

  • Crowd Level: A mix of Low and Very High
  • Key Dates:
    • runDisney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend: Dates TBD (typically early Nov)
    • Veterans Day: Nov 11
    • Thanksgiving Week: Nov 22-28
    • Holiday Festivities Begin: Typically the second week

November is a true mixed bag. The first two weeks can be delightful, with lower crowds and the start of the holiday decorations. However, the week of Thanksgiving is one of the busiest weeks of the entire year. Avoid it if you can.

H3: December 2026

  • Crowd Level: A mix of Moderate and Peak
  • Key Dates:
    • EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays: All month
    • Christmas Week through New Year's Eve: Dec 19-31

The first two weeks of December are one of our favorite times to visit. The holiday magic is everywhere, but the peak crowds haven't arrived yet. Once the third week hits, attendance skyrockets, and the parks remain at or near capacity through the end of the year. This is the absolute busiest time to be at Walt Disney World.

Planning Your 2026 Disney Trip

So, when is the best time to go in 2026? If you're looking for the lowest crowds, your best bets are late January, the first half of February, the last week of August, most of September, the first half of November, and the first two weeks of December.
