Optimized vs Unoptimized at Hollywood Studios
Same park. Same 8 headliners. Two strategies. Here's exactly how much time and walking RopeDrop's OR-Tools vehicle-routing solver saves versus doing it the default way.
❌ Unoptimized
Visit rides in the order you'd naturally think of — alphabetical, or whatever's closest to the front gate first.
Miles walked
5.1 mi
Time in line
5.4 h
Total park time
9.1 h
✅ RopeDrop Optimized
OR-Tools vehicle-routing solver picks the sequence and timing for you.
Miles walked
2.6 mi
Time in line
2.1 h
Total park time
5.9 h
What RopeDrop Saves You
3.2 hours back — without skipping a single ride.
2.5 mi
less walking
3.3 h
less waiting
35%
less total time
The 8 rides being compared
Both strategies visit the same attractions — only the sequence and timing differ.
- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- Rise of the Resistance
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Star Tours
- Toy Story Mania!
- Tower of Terror
Methodology
Wait times are the average for each attraction across the last 30 days of same-day-of-week samples from RopeDrop's prediction engine. Walking distance is computed via a NetworkX graph of the park's walkable paths; shortest path between each pair of rides is Dijkstra, scaled at 80 meters per minute (Disney's published average pace).
- Unoptimized baseline: rides visited in alphabetical order, one per attraction's average wait time.
- Optimized: Google OR-Tools VRPTW solver with
PATH_CHEAPEST_ARCfirst solution and a 5-secondGUIDED_LOCAL_SEARCHmetaheuristic, timed to hit each ride during its historically fastest hour.
